- Am Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges war der elektrische Zugbetrieb in Mitteldeutschland zusammengebrochen und viele der noch vorhandenen Anlagen und Lokomotiven wurden als Reparation in die Sowjetunion abgefahren. Nach einem Abkommen zwischen der jungen DDR und der UdSSR kehrten Anfang der 1950er Jahre einige der abtransportierten Lokomotiven zur Deutschen Reichsbahn zurück. Darunter befanden sich auch Teile der zuvor in Schlesien beheimateten E95. Drei Lokomotiven wurden in der Folge vom RAW Dessau wieder aufgebaut und waren überwiegend im schweren Güterzugdienst im Einsatz.
