- In den 90er-Jahren hatte die Baureihe 216 das Ende ihrer Nutzungsdauer erreicht. Nach der Aufteilung von Lokomotiven und Personal auf die Geschäftsbereiche fand man die 216 bei DB Cargo, wie sich die Güterverkehrssparte damals nannte. Da man im Gegensatz zu früheren Jahren auf eine rasche Umsetzung der "Corporate Identity" setzte, wurden zahlreiche Lokomotiven aller Baureihen neu lackiert.
