- Die Österreichischen Bundesbahnen wurden am 18. März 1938 per Gesetz an die Deutsche Reichsbahn übergeben und die Bundesbahndirektionen wurden in Reichsbahndirektionen umgewandelt. Das Reichsbahnzentralamt in Berlin gab zum 25. November 1938 einen Umzeichnungsplan für alle Lokomotiven der BBÖ aus. Dieser sah vor, dass aus der Reihe 178 die Baureihe 92.22 wurde, welche mit den Betriebsnummern 92 2211 bis 92 2294 durchnummeriert wurden.
